ABSTRACT PAINTING - Focus on Texture, Color, Application

POPULAR  CLASS - New Techniques  - with Lynne Buchanan
Saturday  August 12 - 10:00 to 3:00

The seven elements of design - color, line, shape, size, space, texture and value - serve as the bedrock for all painting composition, but they’re especially crucial for abstract and non-objective works of art.
“When you look at a painting and say, “Oh, I love that painting, there are many factors that contribute to that reaction,” says artist Carol Staub. Besides the subjective component, “you love it because it’s a well-structured painting that features good use of color, shape, texture, size, line, space and value.” Artist Sue St. John concurs, “Knowing, understanding and implementing the principles of design enable an artist to guide the viewer successfully and help him understand what’s happening within a painting.”
Lynne's 2016 Shows and Awards - Trinity Arts (Best of Show), Texas & Neighbors - 3rd acrylic, Irving - 1st watermedia, Society of Watercolor Artists Members Show - award, Tulsa Artists Coalition, Preservation is the Art of the City, Milan Gallery, Texas State Art Hop, Texas Visual Arts, Bath House

handmade LEATHER JOURNAL

Professional Leather Journal for Sketching or Writing - with Dawn Giddings
Thursday - September 7 - 9:30 to 3:00

You will learn how to prepare the papers to create signatures.  We will stitch each signature into the exposed binding and make a closure for your new journal.  The finished sketchbook or journal will be 7 1/2” by 7 1/2” so your paper will need to be 15” wide.  We will cut or tear the paper in class.
Cost $45   - WILL INCLUDE:  Leather cover, needle, professional thread
Supplies to bring:  Please bring your own paper for the journal.  For a watercolor journal, you will need about 5 sheets (makes 120 pages) of 140lb paper (Fabriano works best, CP or HP).  Full sheets 22 x 30" work best as there will be no waste.  For a sketch or writing journal, you might choose to use other papers - these could be mixed media paper, toned or colored papers, tracing paper (I used this in my graphite journal to keep my drawings from smearing), or even old ledger paper, etc.  For a fun mixed use journal, you can even use a mixture of papers (papers should be at least 7 1/2" x 15").  If you have any questions about the paper you are welcome to email Dawn at     giddingsart@gmail.com.    Additional helpful supplies: If possible bring a long ruler, and pliers.
